Speaker McCarthy hopes to limit government spending.
In a letter sent Tuesday to President Biden, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California asked for a round of talks to establish a deal on the debt ceiling. He said that he is prepared for sit-down negotiations to avoid a catastrophic default on debt obligations that is quickly approaching.
“It’s time to drop the partisanship, roll up our sleeves, and find common ground on this urgent challenge,” Speaker McCarthy wrote.
A response to the letter was delivered by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre who said the president “welcomes a separate conversation about our nation’s future. Congress has a constitutional obligation to address the debt limit.”
Speaker McCarthy said, “I have no interest in brinksmanship — only in doing what is best for the American people.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That the Speaker and President will be able to successfully engage in sincere negotiations over the national economy.
- For God to be at work through the debt negotiations going on in Congres.
