Department of Energy Regulations on Air Conditioners

The regulations are meant to reduce consumer energy costs and cut pollution.

In an effort to both cut air pollution and reduce consumer costs, the Department of Energy unveiled new regulations on energy efficiency standards for home air conditioning units, window air conditioners, and portable air cleaners.

In a statement, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, “Today’s announcement builds on the historic actions President Biden took last year to strengthen outdated energy efficiency standards, which will help save on people’s energy bills and reduce our nation’s carbon footprint.”

She added, “DOE will continue to engage with our public and private sector partners to finalize additional proposals like today’s that lower household energy costs and deliver the safer, healthier communities that every American deserves.”

Rules for air conditioners will be implemented in 2024, and rules for room air conditioners will be effective in 2026.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to direct Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm as she leads the Department of Energy.
  • For wisdom for administration officials as they work to reduce energy costs for American citizens.
  • For God’s will to be accomplished through the leaders in our federal government.
