March 17th – Friday

A harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. – James 3:18

The British military evacuated Boston on this day in 1776. Nearly two weeks earlier, Major General John Thomas, under orders from General George Washington, led a secret mission to fortify Dorchester Heights. In order to conceal the noise of construction, Patriot artillery was fired as they surrounded the city of Boston from another position. By the next day, over a dozen cannons had been moved from Fort Ticonderoga into the area. A storm arose which stopped British General William Howe from utilizing the British ships in Boston Harbor to eradicate the American position and allowed the Americans time to complete the ramparts and organize their artillery. British troops left Boston by ship once they noticed their position was untenable. This bloodless event liberated Boston from the eight-year British occupation of the city.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Secretary Lloyd Austin to seek the Lord’s guidance as he leads the Department of Defense.
  • For the Joint Chiefs of staff and secretaries of the U.S. military branches as they advise the president.
