He calls for universal background checks.
While visiting Monterey, California, President Joe Biden signed an executive order the administration says will bring America “as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.”
His order directs the Justice Department to increase the number of background checks by clarifying when the law requires them for the purchase of firearms. The order also directs agencies of the federal government to increase and improve public awareness and promote the use of “red flag laws.” In addition, the Pentagon is instructed to “develop and implement principles to further firearm and public safety practices through the Department of Defense’s acquisition of firearms.”
President Biden’s order also directs his Cabinet to work out a plan to better structure the government to “support communities suffering from gun violence.”
