Defense Department is seeking $835 billion from Congress.
The largest, non-inflation-adjusted budget request in history is being submitted to Congress from the Department of Defense for its fiscal year 2024 budget. The budget is the highest ever in “nominal” terms, not adjusted for modern inflation rates. Yet it is still under some historical budgets in real dollars.
It includes $170 billion for weapons procurement and $145 billion for research and development. The research and development budget is the most ever requested. There is $13.5 billion for the modern F-35 fighter jet program, with at least 83 new F-35s requested for the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Pentagon officials as they submit the 2024 budget request.
- For members of Congress as they review and deliberate the allotments for U.S. defense.
- For the president as commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces and his military advisers.
