Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. – 1 Chronicles 29:12
The siege of the Alamo began on this day in 1836. The thirteen day battle occurred during Texas’ war for independence from Mexico. The Alamo had been occupied by Texas volunteer soldiers since December 1835. General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna led the attack against the former Franciscan mission with thousands of Mexican soldiers. James Bowie, William Travis, and Davy Crockett were among the 200 who defended the Alamo for nearly two weeks before being overwhelmed by Mexican forces. While Texas won its revolution later that year, Mexico did not honor the Velasco Treaty which General Santa Anna signed after his capture. Despite Texas admittance to the Union in 1945, the continued claim to the territory by Mexico led to the outbreak of the Mexican War in 1846.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For the president and his advisors to be prudent in their negotiations and agreements with other countries.
- That Defense Secretary Austin and the Joint Chiefs of Staff would have discernment as they advise the president.
