Official says trajectory may have been altered by unexpected wind.
An anonymous U.S. official recently stated that the Chinese balloon the United States shot down two weeks ago was likely meant to fly over Hawaii and Guam in the Pacific Ocean. Its original trajectory was carried off course by strong winds, causing it to fly over Alaska, Canada, and the central United States before being shot down off the coast of South Carolina.
“Crews have been able to recover significant debris from the site, including all of the priority sensor and electronics pieces identified as well as large sections of the structure,” the U.S. military’s Northern Command stated last week.
The People’s Republic of China continues to maintain that the balloon was for weather purposes only. However, President Biden’s administration says that the balloon was too large and carried too many electronic sensors for that to be the case.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration as they determine next steps regarding China.
- For Secretary Austin and military leaders as decisions are made in response to the incursion into U.S. air space.
