God chose you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. – 2 Thessalonians 2:13
On this day in 1962, President John F. Kennedy issued an executive order establishing a full embargo between the United States and Cuba. While embargos had been placed under President Eisenhower due to the nationalizing of U.S.-owned oil refineries without compensation by the Cuban government, this new policy restricted all trade between the two countries. This had an extremely negative effect on Cuba’s economy. While the embargo has lapsed several times since then, it is still largely in place today. As a result, Cuba’s economic development has been restricted and stunted for nearly its entire history as an independent nation. The U.S. has, however, continued to export food and medicine to the island nation. As you pray today, ask that U.S. leaders seek God’s guidance as they wield power and influence.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For the president and his administration as they determine the responses of the U.S. to human rights and other abuses of power in foreign lands.
- For wisdom for Secretary of State Antony Blinken as he oversees diplomatic efforts around the globe.
