For am I now seeking the approval of man or of God? – Galatians 1:10
On this day in 1784, David Landreth established the first U.S. seed business, D. Landreth Seed Company, and garden center in Philadelphia. His business became successful, selling seeds to nearby estates and to the City of Philadelphia, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Joseph Bonaparte. He and his son were both among the founders of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, which was founded in 1827. The Landreth family granted a parcel of land to the city of Philadelphia in 1845 to construct a public school, which was named Landreth School. Presently, D. Landreth Seed Company is the fifth oldest corporation in the U.S. and has sold seed to nearly every president from George Washington to Franklin D. Roosevelt. As you consider this legacy today, ask the Lord to show you what actions you can take to add to His glory.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For officials in the executive branch to have understanding as they navigate through creating, approving, and implementing new policies.
- For President Biden to have integrity and prudence as he and his administration oversee the enforcement of the nation’s laws.
