Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the day of Herod the king. – Matthew 2:1
The prophet Micah predicted the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2-4). When Herod felt his kingship threatened, he consulted the scribes and Pharisees about the King of the Jews. They knew He would be born in Bethlehem. Though they did not quote Micah’s prophecy word for word, they referred to it. “And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah: for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel” (Matthew 2:6). Herod said he was inquiring about the Messiah because he wanted to worship Him. In reality, he wanted to kill Him.
Like the people of Israel before the time of Christ, present-day Christians rely on prophecy as they await His return. It is tempting to think that believers today are more distant from God than those who were looking for the Messiah at the time of Christ’s birth. But, followers of the Lord wait with the same expectation and perhaps with a bit of the same confusion as they did at His first coming.
In your prayer time, worship Jesus the Savior as the soon and coming King. Emulate the heart of the words to the popular Christmas carol, “O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem. O come and behold Him, born the King of Angels. O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!”
Pray that, this Christmas season, citizens and elected officials of the United States will turn to Him in worship and adoration.

1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
