People of Peace

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.  – Matthew 5:9

Hopefully, you have encountered a few peaceable people in life! They have several recognizable qualities, including a couple that may be surprising. A peacemaking person is not a conflict-avoider. Instead, they press into a problem and offer help and restoration to all involved. They are interested in discovering the truth in difficult situations, not merely clarifying the opposing perspectives. A peacemaker will invite discussion and introduce principles of faith that may not have been considered by others.

The Greek word for peacemaker is used when describing its greatest example in the Bible, “Through Him (Christ) to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross” (Colossians 1:20). In His death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus Christ laid down His life to establish peace between God and humankind.

Becoming a person of God’s peace is not a personality trait. While some people are naturally more inclined to it than others, God calls all His children to be peacemakers. Ask the Lord to make you aware of areas in your life where you might bring His peace into a situation and open a door for Jesus Christ to be introduced. “How beautiful… are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation” (Isaiah 52:7).

Pray for the United States to be blessed with Godly people of peace at every level of government. Ask that they take the opportunity to share the hope of the gospel of Christ with those around them, and for God to prepare many hearts to receive His good news.

Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
    for there is a future for the man of peace.
38 But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
    the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
    he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and delivers them;
    he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
    because they take refuge in him.
