There is no “new cold war” with China, he said.
President Joe Biden gave a press briefing following his nearly three-hour meeting with President Xi Jinping of China on Monday. Both are attending the G20 conference in Bali, Indonesia, and it is the first time the two have met face-to-face.
Regarding Taiwan, President Biden stated, “We are not going to be able to work everything out; it’s not going to be all Kumbaya. But I do not believe there is a need for concern about a new cold war.” He said he does not believe there will be an “imminent attempt” from China to invade the island nation.
President Biden said the two of them had been candid with one another, making their policies known. He said he also stressed the need for cooperation on issues such as climate change. President Biden said that Secretary of State Blinken and National Security Adviser Sullivan would be meeting in the future with their Chinese counterparts to continue the talks.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president to seek God’s wisdom as he meets with foreign leaders.
- For discernment for Secretary Blinken as he discusses foreign policy with the Chinese minister.
- For National Security Advisor Sullivan as he supports the president’s agenda with China.
