Blueprint for Success

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.  – Ephesians 5:15

As a train must stay on its tracks in order to arrive at its intended destination, so the believer is duty-bound to stay on the right path to maneuver through this life successfully. Proverbs 4:18-19 says that the wicked stumble in the darkness, but “the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn which shines brighter and brighter.”

The apostle Paul had encouraged the believers of Ephesus to walk in love and to walk in God’s light, and now he tells them that they must pay attention and be aware in their walk. Staying alert and listening to the Holy Spirit within, they could successfully navigate their way through the pitfalls and traps that lay before them.

It is the same today. The world is full of sin and unholy influences, temptations, and sorrows that tempt you to follow a path of regrets and unhappiness. But God, in His love for you, has supplied you with a blueprint for success. Bible theologian H.A. Ironside once wrote, “In my heart, in my heart send a great revival. Teach me how to watch and pray and to read my Bible.” It was his way of saying that God’s Word was his guide. Let it be yours as well.

Those who are foolish drift with the wind and waves, but the believer finds solid footing in the wisdom the Lord offers in His Word. You can have steady steps when you have unbroken communion with God. Be guided by His Word and through prayer. Then intercede for those in governing office at all levels, that they would have godly wisdom in their decisions.

11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

“Awake, O sleeper,
    and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
