Britain’s former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak was announced as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Monday after becoming the sole candidate left in the race when his opponents all bowed out.
He replaces Liz Truss who resigned last week after 45 days in office following multiple economic and energy crises.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Joe Biden, following protocol, looks forward to speaking with the new British prime minister once he has met with the king and been invited to form a new government
