On Friday, the president’s administration released a plan to improve the quality of nursing homes. President Biden stated, “For far too long, nursing home residents have been victims of an industry with little accountability to keep American seniors safe and protected. COVID-19 has laid bare the challenges in America’s nursing homes.“
His announcement outlined the actions that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid will employ to “significantly strengthen accountability for nursing homes in the Special Focus Facilities Program.“ His administration will also support organized labor to staff nursing homes and establish minimum staffing requirements. Transparency and accountability as well as pandemic preparedness rounded out the improvements of the plan.
