In the News…
Over a period of 12 days, North Korea has launched six ballistic missiles, including one over Japan.
The U.S. and several allies called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting following Pyongyang’s conduct. The U.S. called the missile test over Japan “dangerous and reckless” and a “clear violation” of Security Council resolutions. China and Russia, permanent members of the Security Council, opposed calling the meeting, which ended with no solution.
Chinese and Russian officials stated at the meeting that Washington has provoked the launches with military exercises.
U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that “the two Council members that are blocking us from taking action are enabling North Korea.”
