Two Defense Department officials participate.
Undersecretary of Defense William A. LaPlante led the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels, Belgium, over the weekend, where he was joined by Deputy Under Secretary Sasha Baker. Undersecretary LaPlante strategized solutions for long-term support of Ukraine’s defense against Russia with national armaments directors, while Deputy Under Secretary Baker conveyed Ukraine’s need for sustainable military hardware that adequately meets NATO standards.
A note of concern was Russia’s acquisition of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Iran, though the deputy undersecretary told the group Russia likely would only lean on Iran if they were short on supplies and a little desperate. “We have seen some evidence already that the UAVs associated with the transfer from Iran have already experienced numerous failures on the battleground,” she added.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration as they continue to seek avenues to support Ukraine.
- For Secretary Loyd Austin to seek God’s guidance in the U.S. approach to Russian aggression.
- For Pentagon officials as they assess information and advise the president.
