He says questioning the legitimacy of the court “crosses an important line.“
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito recently fielded inquiries during an interview about whether the court’s justices were concerned the public was losing faith in the Supreme Court after a series of decisions that have caused public debate.
“It goes without saying that everyone is free to express disagreement with our decisions and to criticize our reasoning as they see fit,” said Justice Alito. “But saying or implying that the court is becoming an illegitimate institution or questioning our integrity crosses an important line.”
The decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which was written by Justice Alito and overturned Roe v. Wade, was perhaps the most dramatic court ruling in decades. It has become a major topic of focus in the midterm elections.
