If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. – 1 John 1:6
Who is the greatest influence in your life today? For many people the answer is surprising… it is you! Consider for a moment that no one talks to you more than you do. What have you said to yourself today? Some of you have given yourself positive messages of God’s love and support through Scripture and prayer, but others are trying to escape the weight of an internal dialog of criticism and doubt.
Everyone is tested with false beliefs, and ironically you can lie to yourself! Denial is a strong mindset and the motivation to hide from an uncomfortable truth is not uncommon. Practicing the truth is a biblical principle and a good place to start in developing a healthy internal life. Start by memorizing John 8:32, “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” As you dedicate yourself to the truth of God’s Word, generously feeding your mind with it, new healthy thoughts are created which lead to health in your body and soul.
If you desire to live a life of faith then Jesus tells you how to do it: seek Him and read His word. He already prayed for your success, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). Ask God to help you practice influencing your own life with truth by reading and meditating on His word today. Pray for leaders in the United States to seek God in their thinking and decision-making by turning to His word also.
Today’s Verse: 1 John 1:6

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
