Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. – Psalm 25:5
You will find most maps place North at the top, but it has not always been the case. In ages past, cartographers in Europe put East on top. Since the sun rises in the East it was a natural decision for the medieval ages, but it would certainly be confusing to use that today! Standards are important and, when you look at a map, you want to safely assume North is up in order to correctly chart your course.
For the follower of Christ, knowing God’s Word is like making sure North is the top of your map! The early church in Acts faced challenges similar to what you face today in sifting God’s direction out of all the voices and influences you encounter on a daily basis. Like you, they needed wisdom and discernment.
Charles Spurgeon stated, “Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.” The early church found a way to bypass error, “The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea … they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily” (Acts 17:10-11). The Berean believers stayed grounded in truth by daily searching scripture.
Studying God’s Word every day will ensure you get the message right and stay pointed in the right direction in life. Pray for leaders in America’s churches to be faithful in searching Scripture and correctly proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ for all to hear. Ask God to open the hearts and minds of leaders across the nation to receive His message.
Today’s Verse: Psalm 25:5
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
