Traffickers transported illegal immigrants across the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the arrest of eight alleged human smugglers. Joint Task Force Alpha, a collaboration between the DOJ, Homeland Security, and local law enforcement, had been investigating the smuggling operation for over a year before initiating their indictment. The eight suspects transported citizens of Mexico, Guatemala, and Columbia in secret compartments across the southern U.S. border and around the southern states to “stash houses” where they would harbor the migrants.
“The charges announced today are just the latest example of these efforts’ success,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “The Justice Department will continue to bring our full resources to bear to combat the human smuggling and trafficking groups that endanger our communities, abuse and exploit migrants, and threaten our national security.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For officials in the Justice and Homeland Security departments as they interdict traffickers.
- For Attorney General Garland to be discerning in his guidance of the DOJ.
- For the many migrants who are being smuggled by cartel operations.
