For this purpose, I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth. – John 18:37
Each person on Earth has the same reason for being: to bring honor to God. “People whom I formed for myself, that they might declare my praise” (Isaiah 43:21). Honoring God is not a process of bestowing glory upon Him. He already has an infinite amount of splendor and does not need you to do that! Glorifying God is about the recognition and acknowledgment of the truth of who He is, and what He has done. It brings Him pleasure for you to discover how wonderful He is.
Foremost in relationship with God, He delights in your faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him” (Hebrews 11:6). And your faith fuels obedience, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). When you believe the truth about who God is – Kind, Just, Faithful, Loving, Holy – your life will begin to reflect His attributes, just like His Son Jesus did. “Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered and being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (Hebrews 5:8-9).
Jesus is the expressed truth of God. When you emulate Him it fulfills your designed purpose on Earth, which brings God glory and stands as a testimony to the watching world. As you examine your life today, ask the Lord where you need to become more like Jesus in heart and faith. Pray that He would work His transformation in your life. And pray that others will be encouraged to honor God as they see His Son’s likeness in you.
Today’s Verse: John 18:37
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose, I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
