Many today are faithfully praying that God would bless America! Fewer are likely asking that the nation would actively prepare to receive those gifts. Across time and history, God has blessed nations and people who have sought His favor by honoring Him in their laws and in their hearts.
Zechariah was a prophet to God’s people in ancient Israel. He was born while the nation was in captivity and was among those returning to Judah from Babylon around 538 BC. As the nation was physically rebuilding itself, Zechariah was concerned with its spiritual renovation as well. He was commissioned to assist the people in once again walking in covenant with a Holy God!
Zechariah reports the word of the Lord, saying, “Again have I purposed in these days to bring good to Jerusalem… These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate declare the LORD” (Zechariah 8:15-17).
Pray that the people of the United States would desire to cultivate a deepening walk with God and for His truth to reign in their lives and in the structure of this nation. Intercede for local and national decision-makers by name. Help America prepare to receive God’s blessing by being a nation standing in devotion to the truth of His Word.
