Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. – Hebrews 13:15
It is hard to imagine the strain of change the first-century believers in Christ endured. The first followers of Jesus were Hebrews who still believed they must go to the temple, observe the traditional rituals, and obey the laws regarding food. Some were still drawn to return to the old sacrifices. But Jesus had made the once-for-all sacrifice to take away sin.
The sacrifices now required are of a different type. Believers are called upon to “offer up a sacrifice of praise to God… acknowledge His name” continually, and in every circumstance (Hebrews 13:15). It will be like fruit laid upon the altar before the Lord. Be assured that it is a pleasing offering to Him.
Dr. Louis H. Evans wrote this regarding the powerful dynamic of praise: “When discouragement tethers our feet to the stakes, when fatigue numbs the spirit, when relentless circumstances hound us moment by moment and day by day, the mature disciple discovers that praise both produces and releases energy.” Don’t wallow in the mire of self-pity, but let God’s power and grace carry you through every circumstance as you offer Him your sacrifice of praise.
The Lord calls you to follow up your faith and praise with helping others. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). May your prayers and songs of thanksgiving and praise comfort and strengthen you to help others and to spread the news of His salvation. Pray for the governing officials of this nation to turn to the Lord and work for the good of its people. Give Him thanks for the blessings of this country.

What shall I render to the Lord
for all his benefits to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
