China has been conducting live fire drills near the island nation.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded Friday to live military drills being conducted by China around Taiwan. She said Beijing will not succeed in isolating the self-governing island, nor will it stop U.S. officials from visiting Taiwan.
She made her comments following a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumo Kishida in Tokyo as she concluded a week-long congressional delegation trip to Asia that included a visit to Taiwan.
Beijing began the drills as Speaker Pelosi went to Taiwan. She responded by stating that China should “immediately” stop the launches as Japanese officials estimated that five ballistic missiles landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
Taiwan’s Defense Minister confirmed that multiple Chinese warships and fighter aircraft were “participating in drills around Taiwan Strait and have crossed the median line.”
Also, as part of its opposition to the Speaker’s visit to Taiwan, China said Friday it would halt all cooperation with the United States on areas including military relations and climate change while imposing sanctions against the speaker.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
