He says the numbers of border crossers are “staggering.”
FBI Director Christopher Wray testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where he repeatedly expressed concern about the border crisis.
“I certainly know that it is an eclectic mix of nationalities and the volume is just staggering,” he told Senator John Cornyn of Texas. In the exchange with the senator, Director Wray agreed that “it represents a significant security issue and represents a wide array of criminal threats that flow out of it.”
When Senator Lindsey Graham asked if the U.S. has operational control of the border, regarding terrorism threats and a secure border, the FBI director replied, “Well, let me answer that this way. While on the one hand, we don’t have — so I don’t want to mislead people — any imminent credible threat from a foreign terrorist organization on the border at the moment, any port of entry, any potential vulnerability is something we know foreign terrorist organizations and others will seek to exploit.”
Director Wray added, “You only have to look at the case that we charged pretty recently involving an individual trying to smuggle nationals into the U.S. to kill former President Bush to be reminded that it is something we need to take deathly seriously.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Wray to be vigilant in the oversight of his agency and national security.
- For Secretary Mayorkas to be discerning as he heads the Department of Homeland Security.
- For Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz as he directs the officers and agents at the U.S. borders and ports of entry.
