Confidence in Prayer

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.  – 1 John 5:14

Do you remember when you learned to drive? Perhaps you learned on a stick shift. Using your left foot for the clutch and your right for the accelerator and brake may have confused you at first. How and when to shift to the next higher gear—or down to a lower one—were learned by experience. After backing into a mailbox, jumping a few curbs, or missing a yield sign, you grew more confident with each time behind the wheel.

How was it when you first learned to talk to God in prayer? You learned by watching and listening to others, and by studying your Bible to find out what God says about the matter of prayer. Over time, you have likely acquired confidence in your approach to prayer.

God has granted you access to His very throne… possibly the most astonishing concept ever! Moreover, He encourages you to come to Him continually. As a loving Father, He never turns His ear away from you. Whether you bring a prayer of thanksgiving, praise, worship, intercession, or supplication, God has invited you to come to Him… confident that He hears you and will answer. In fact, He will provide an answer to every one of your prayers, according to His will.

Today, as you pray, intercede for the president and those around him. Ask God to turn their hearts toward Him and to grant them wisdom to do what is best for the nation, that He would be magnified.

Today’s Verse: 1 John 5:14

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
