Patient Perseverance

We desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end.  – Hebrews 6:11

The primary purpose of the writer of the book of Hebrews was to show that Jesus is far superior to anything that came before Him in the books of the law. A secondary goal was to encourage believers to endure, to persevere, while they wait for Christ’s return.

Waiting is not an easy task for most people, and a growing impatience is often the result. Even when you are patient, however, distractions come and focus may change. Strangely, the impatience of waiting may lead to a pattern of laziness. But God’s plan for the believer includes a different form of waiting.

In 1 Corinthians 15:58, the Amplified Bible says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].” Galatians 6:9 urges, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

So as you wait patiently for the return of the Lord, having solid hope in that truth, follow His leading in accomplishing His purposes. Praying for others is a big part of the work He has for you to do. Today, as you come before His throne, pray for the Holy Spirit to convict the hearts of members of the administration and Congress who do not know the Lord, so that they might repent and turn from darkness to His marvelous light—the Light of the World, Jesus.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. 10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
