Pregnant with Promise

But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. – Psalm 71:14

What if a mother-to-be gets tired of waiting on the baby within her? After all, sometimes those nine months seem like an eternity! How foolish it would be to say that the baby’s just not coming. What if she were to quit the doctor visits, stop taking her vitamins, turn her nursery back into a sewing room, and turn down a baby shower? How strange it would be if she ignored her growing belly and the kicks of that child who’s getting ready to come out in the world?!

The promises of God are similar to the seed inside the mother, fertilized by faith. Just like the baby grows within, so do the promises and the answered prayers. How foolish it would be to ignore the Word of God, His prophecies, and promises. A person who believes in the promises of God spiritually supports and supplements that faith by spending time in God’s Word and congregating with other believers in fellowship. People of faith get the “nursery” ready, valuing eternal hope over temporary material possessions and reaching out in kindness toward others. They plan for and anticipate answered prayers, persisting in belief, and placing full confidence in God to answer them.

As a new mom rejoices at the birth of the child, praise the Lord as you see the answers emerge and appear in your life. Praise His name more and more as it says in today’s verse. Pray with expectancy that what you ask will come to fruition as you pray according to His will. Pray for the nation in specific ways so that when you see God’s answers, you will praise Him and others will be drawn to Him.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 71:14

But I will hope continually
and will praise you yet more and more.

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
