Makes announcement during trip to Santa Fe.
In April of this year, two prescribed burns made by the U.S. Forest Service became out of control, driven by drought and wind, destroying hundreds of homes in Santa Fe. President Biden announced on Saturday that the federal government will fund 100% of the recovery expenses necessary to remove debris and take emergency protective measures for the next 90 days.
The wildfire scorched over 320,000 acres of land, around the size of Los Angeles, and destroyed more than 900 homes in its wake. The 90-day period will hopefully give enough time for Congress to assess whether they should also take steps to provide additional aid as well.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the president and his administration as federal aid is committed to wildfire recovery in New Mexico.
- For discernment for members of Congress as the administration requests additional funding from Congress.
- For officials in the U.S. Forest Service to approach forest management with great care and caution.
