Seek the Source

The Lord is my portion… therefore I will hope in him.  – Lamentations 3:24

There is an old saying, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” A similar principle applies spiritually. People suffer from all kinds of problems in body, soul, and mind, but when they go to the Lord, they are going to the source of solutions for all of their problems. Not to say that God does not work through other people to offer help and supply needs, but all good things originate in Him.

Those who have received salvation in Christ are now part of God’s family. Like a child expects to be taken care of by his parents, believers can expect to be taken care of by their Heavenly Father. Jesus said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).

If you haven’t received an answer to the prayer you’ve been praying, take inventory. Have you persisted in prayer, or have you given up? What are your motives for what you ask? Do you believe God is big enough to resolve the situation? Is there someone you have not forgiven or any area you have not obeyed Him? As you examine your heart concerning these things, growing in the Lord and in prayer, you will recognize more answers. Pray for the nation in obedience to 1 Timothy 2:1-2 so that believers can live peaceful, quiet, and godly lives.

16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
