Mourns the loss of life.
President Joe Biden responded to the tragic mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday. The shooter used two AR-15-style semi-automatic rifles he had bought days before to kill 19 students and one teacher. The president mourned the deaths of the children and referred to a time when he helped pass a 10-year ban on assault weapons as U.S. senator from Delaware in 1994.
“When we passed the assault weapons ban, mass shootings went down. When the law expired, mass shootings tripled. The idea that an 18-year-old kid could walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons, is just wrong,” President Biden said. “We have to act. And don’t tell me we can’t have an impact on this carnage.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration to seek God’s wisdom as they address gun violence.
- For the families of those whose loved ones died in recent mass shootings.
- For discernment for federal, state, and local officials as they consider violence prevention methods.
