Domestic manufacture of batteries gets $3.1 billion in funding.
President Biden’s administration announced Monday it will begin a $3.1 billion plan to support domestic manufacturing of batteries in a broader effort to shift the country away from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles.
They report that the electrification of the transportation sector will be critical to mitigating climate change, as the transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to U.S. greenhouse gas emissions at roughly one-third of emissions each year.
According to the Department of Energy, the funding will support grants for building, retooling, or expanding the manufacturing of batteries and battery components, as well as establishing battery recycling facilities.
“These made-in-America batteries are going to help reduce emissions and create opportunities across the country,” White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy said.
The plan will also help establish less reliance on China for batteries for electric vehicles.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Climate Advisor McCarthy as she provides information and recommendations to the president and energy officials.
- For Secretary Granholm as she oversees the Energy Department.
- For the president and his energy and climate officials to seek God’s guidance as they implement plans and programs.
