You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.  – Psalm 4:7

Today’s verse speaks of an intimate love and appreciation for God. It isn’t the type of love that goes to church on Sunday and forgets about Him for the rest of the week. It is knowing Him and desiring Him more than anything the world has to offer. Imagine those things that make you happy or excite you. Perhaps going on vacation to a relaxing place, having your family living in harmony, or losing weight. What would thrill you? Perhaps success in your work, winning a new car, or going on a great adventure. Do you ever experience those feelings spending time with the Lord?

The presence of the Lord is the true source of joy, as the Psalmist discovered. He is the One who makes things whole and right. All earthly things that make you happy in this life are temporary – they change, get lost, or fade away. “Cadillacs end up in the junkyard” is a line from an old Christian song. Your relationship with the Lord is for all eternity. God is strong, unshakeable, and unending. He is the source of true joy. This joy is a delight in the Lord, who He is and what He has done. It goes beyond circumstances and is able to withstand all the troubles of this world.

Seek His face today and thank Him for being all that He is and for the eternal promises He has given you. Lift in prayer those who have yet to receive His salvation. Intercede for the United States. Pray that government officials and citizens alike will learn to put God first place in their hearts and lives, finding true joy in the Lord.

Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
    and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
    Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
9 For the evildoers shall be cut off,
    but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

10 In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
    though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land
    and delight themselves in abundant peace.
