The Solid Rock

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.  – Hebrews 10:23

Have you ever tried to rely on someone who was undependable? Broken promises, missed deadlines, and lists of excuses plague the human race. At one time or another, you have probably been let down or you have disappointed others yourself. The good news is that you can fully rely on God and His many promises recorded in the Bible. The Lord cannot fail, lie, or get sidetracked. Pastor and hymn writer Edward Mote expressed it eloquently, “On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.”

Today’s verse says you can hold fast in hope because God is faithful. With the many terrible things going on in the world today, many may be tempted to fear, be depressed, or give up their faith. But nothing is happening that God has not foreseen. In Matthew 24, Jesus warns that in the last days there will be wars and rumors of war. There will be man-made and natural disasters. There will be severe persecution of His people.

Comparatively speaking, believers in America still have tremendous freedoms. However, the cases against the freedoms of speech and religion are on the rise. Pray for those who find themselves in legal cases brought against Christian faith and beliefs. Pray for legislative and judicial officials to uphold the freedoms of religion and speech so they remain intact in the United States. Hold fast to your faith no matter what is going on in the world. You can depend on God to care for you and your loved ones as you seek and serve Him in Christ.

Today’s Verse: Hebrews 10:23

3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. 5 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
