At Your Door

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.  – Revelation 3:20

Today’s verse is often used during an invitation following the sermon for people to make a decision to follow Jesus. It is a vivid and apt description of what is happening spiritually at that time. However, the Lord is addressing Christians, the church at Laodicea. He describes this half-hearted church as lukewarm, wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. It is a church with a reputation of being alive, but God sees them as dead or about to die.

God knows your heart, as well as your name and reputation. Unlike others around you who may only see what is happening on the outside, He knows what’s really going on inside of you. He knows your thoughts, attitudes, and intentions. He stands at your heart’s door, calling for you to open it. What a delight it is to know that God desires to fellowship with His people!

For a Christian, this should be a door that never closes, one that is continually open to hear His voice and invite Him in. But there are times His people get distracted as Jesus stands at the door and knocks. At your invitation, He says that He will come in. In your quiet time, sit at His feet as Mary did. Worship Him and meditate on who He is and what He has done. Present your needs to Him as well as the needs of the nation. Pray for God to fan the flames of the Holy Spirit in the Church so that when He returns, He will, indeed, find faith on the Earth.

Today’s Verse: Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
