Singing to God

Sing to him; sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!  – 1 Chronicles 16:9

It is not possible to overemphasize giving gratitude to God. Considering who He is and what He has done, He is worthy of all the praise that His people can muster. Worship leader and songwriter Justin Tweito cites seven benefits of singing Scripture-filled songs: building a foundation on the Word of God and Jesus, teaching and retaining what is learned, Scripture memorization, honoring who He is and what He has done, rejoicing and delighting in His Word, unity in diversity of worshippers, and evangelism as the gospel of Christ is shared through song.

The first part of today’s verse focuses on singing to God. It is important to sing about God, but singing to Him with thanksgiving is a deeper act of personal worship. It is that one-on-one connection that Jesus came to establish. Believers in Christ come together as a whole to worship because of their individual commitment to the Lord.

In your prayer time today, try singing your praises to Him. Thank Him for what He has done for you personally in song. Sing His word to Him, pre-made tunes or ones you create yourself. As you spend time with the Lord, remember to bring the needs of the nation and lay them at His feet. And thank Him for all He has done for this country. Pray for His perfect will to be done in the United States, its governing officials, its citizens, and even in its geography and weather conditions. God is able to do all things. Nothing is impossible with Him. Sing His praises. And tell others about the wonderful God you serve.

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
