They intend to issue more, foreign ministry statement said.
The Russian foreign ministry announced Tuesday it is imposing sanctions on more than a dozen Americans, including President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, in response to sweeping economic penalties imposed by President Biden’s administration upon Russian entities over the invasion of Ukraine. The list of those sanctioned by Russia includes 112 current and former government officials, as well as Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, and Hillary Clinton, a former secretary of state.
Russia stated it intends to sanction more U.S. officials, military leaders, federal legislators, and members of the media who have been critical of Russia. They said their sanctions are “on the basis of reciprocity.”
The sanctions mean that those officials are prohibited from entering Russia, and any assets they hold there are frozen, but the measures do not hinder high-level contacts if they are needed.
The U.S. had already issued a wide range of economic penalties for Russian financial institutions, government officials, including President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov, and oligarchs to hold Russia accountable for their recent aggression in Ukraine.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for the president and his administration as they are sanctioned.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials as they determine other moves regarding Russia’s aggressive activity.
- For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they make decisions in response to the developing conflict in Ukraine.
