Give Him the Glory!

 Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God?  – Psalm 77:13

Asaph, the writer of Psalm 77, seems to be lost in the darkness of his troubles. He reaches out to God, but is not comforted. Though he tries to remember the good the Lord has done for him, he still feels alone and forsaken. Yet, as he reaches out again and begins to remember the wonderful works of the Almighty God, hope is revived in Asaph. Doubt, fear, distrust and despair recede. He knows God is mighty and will care for him.

C. H. Spurgeon once said, “Memory is a fit handmaid for faith.” Many families like to recall how their ancestors emigrated to the United States, their trials, and their successes. Spiritually speaking, it is only fitting that you remember how you came to faith in the Lord, the godly people that were put in your life, or the circumstances that led you to call out to the Lord who saved you. When life brings difficulties, memories can reinforce your faith so you recall how God has guided you, protected you.

Israel always called to mind their exodus from Egypt: God’s miracles in the land prior to their release, His protection with the cloud and pillar of fire, His power exhibited as He parted the Red Sea and gave the people dry land upon which to walk in their escape. Even the other nations trembled at the thought of dealing with Israel’s God.

God is holy – there is none greater! Pray now for the clear remembrance of His works in your life. Then intercede for those in this nation who currently serve gods that are temporary and man-made. God is unchangeable; give Him the glory He deserves.

Today’s Verse:  Psalm 77:13

I will open my mouth in a parable;
    I will utter dark sayings from of old,
3 things that we have heard and known,
    that our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children,
    but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
    and the wonders that he has done.

5 He established a testimony in Jacob
    and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
    to teach to their children,
6 that the next generation might know them,
    the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
7     so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget the works of God,
    but keep his commandments;
