Worship Song

 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.  – Exodus 15:2

How did you choose the music you are listening to today? Modern psychology is at odds with itself trying to figure you out! Classic personality theorists say aggressive people like heavy metal, clever people are attracted to classical, and rebels like rock, etc. Yet if you take a close look at your own playlist, you may not agree with that idea at all! Others say music is a random choice given more to expressing moods and emotions. Regardless of WHY you choose to listen; music is a language and every song tells a story.

There is an ancient song that might inspire you today. Found in Exodus 15, the Shirat Ha-Yam, “The Song at the Sea,” are the words of God’s people in worship. The people of Israel, standing on the banks of the Red Sea, miraculously delivered from slavery, but not yet entering their promised land, are singing. Moses and Miriam lead the congregation recounting their amazing story, telling about God and His faithful salvation for those who follow Him.

What words would you choose to describe your life’s journey? They form a unique song like that song at the sea, that only you can sing to God in worship. Like the ancient Israelites, you are likely yet to experience great blessings and great challenges, but God will remain the same in His faithfulness to you. He welcomes your song, like theirs on that day, incomplete as it is!

Praise God today, worshiping Him for what He has done and is yet to do in America. Pray for those making critical decisions.

Today’s Verse:  Exodus 15:2

The Lord is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
    my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
    Tell of his salvation from day to day.
24 Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
    and he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and joy are in his place.
