Sitting

 Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he! – Psalm 99:5

At whose feet do you sit? The modern world’s answer is “no one’s!” Throughout history, that phrase has been used to describe the place of the disciple, a pupil ready to receive from the master teacher. Regardless of where you are in life, you have learned from someone. You discover what to do and what not to do as you sit in training.

The disciples of Christ were an interesting lot. You would think the Messiah of God would select an all-star team. Yet, the 12 He brought into His circle were the commonest of common people, unrefined and ordinary. Exactly where God does His best work! People who admit their ignorance and own up to their blindness are great candidates for God’s glory to show through their lives. He does not require the strength of overachievers because HE is strong, sufficient for all. In fact, the dimmer the star that humbly sits before Him, the more brilliantly His work can shine through that life.

Whether you have seen yourself as too unimportant or as too sophisticated to publicly declare your discipleship with Christ, be aware, “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise… so that no human being might boast in the presence of God” (1Corinthians 1:27-29).

As you humbly admit that God is everything and take your place at the foot of His throne, you will learn worship. Pray that those in positions of leadership in the U.S. would realize their need for the Lord and His knowledge. Ask that many will humbly sit, learn, and worship at His feet.

Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.”

7 How beautiful upon the mountains
    are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
    who publishes salvation,
    who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
8 The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice;
    together they sing for joy;
for eye to eye they see
    the return of the Lord to Zion.
9 Break forth together into singing,
    you waste places of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted his people;
    he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The Lord has bared his holy arm
    before the eyes of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth shall see
    the salvation of our God.
