Penalizes Lukashenka administration for Russian support.
The Department of the Treasury announced on Friday that they are sanctioning 24 individuals and entities in Belarus. President Alexander Lukashenka has been helping facilitate Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed hopes that these sanctions will make a strong negative impact on the Belarusian economy.
“Treasury continues to disrupt Belarus’s military and financial capabilities through targeted sanctions,” said Secretary Yellen. “Further, due to the interconnectedness between the two countries, the actions Treasury took against Russia today will also impose severe economic pain on the Lukashenka regime.”
