Mind Your Mind

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.  – John 8:32

Have you ever been trapped in your own mind? Most people know what it feels like to stew and ruminate the night away only to rise in the morning with nothing to show for all that thought.  The world today lends itself to anxious and troubling notions.

Scripture is not meant to replace practical, earthly, understanding. In fact, it encourages you to use your intellect. However, Jesus urges you to use your powerful thinking process not only to observe what is happening around you but to put it in cultural context. He challenged the religious leaders of His day because they did not recognize the extraordinary events happening in front of their noses!  “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.” (Matthew 16:2-3).

Do not make the same mistake as those Pharisees! Saturate your mind with Scripture. Infuse God’s Word into your thinking process so you can read the news with knowledge of God’s plan for humankind already at work in your perspective. It does not mean you will not have another sleepless night, but it does mean the thoughts keeping you awake might produce a better result in the morning!

Pray for judges sitting on America’s benches of justice to seek knowledge of God’s truth as well as tenants of the law. Ask God to bring righteous judgment and thinking into American courts of law.

Today’s Verse: John 8:32

I have stored up your word in my heart,
    that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
    teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
    all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
    as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
    and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
    I will not forget your word.
