Promoting diversity and addressing monopolization.
The Department of Defense released its Defense Industrial Base report on Tuesday, which included a State of Competition assessment as legislated by Executive Order 14036, an anti-monopoly policy enacted on July 9, 2021. The report discovered a lack of diversity, merger oversight, and support for small businesses among their industrial base, and recommended five action steps to address these deficiencies.
Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said, “As DoD works to innovate, bring new technologies into our supplier base, and develop the workforce of the future, American small businesses and our U.S. industrial base must expand not only to improve resiliency, but to ensure we are able to meet the needs of our warfighters for tomorrow’s high-tech challenges.”
