Hidden Things

In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.  – Colossians 2:3

Do you sometimes wish you knew all that God is doing? You know He is at work… working with nations, with leaders, with family and friends, and with you. Even when you cannot see what He is doing, you know you can trust His heart.

It is not that God is keeping things from you. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Before you pray to have more revealed to you, consider what you are asking… for with such knowledge comes vast responsibility.

Amos said as much, reminding the people of his time that they bear responsibility for the things the Lord has spoken to them. In chapter 3, verses 7 and 8, read, “For the Lord does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets… the Lord God has spoken, who can but prophesy?”  Jesus said, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required” (Luke 12:48). If God blesses you with knowledge about the hidden things, He expects you to do something about it!

The most important thing God wants you to understand is His will for you. His Word shows the way He wants you to go. His Spirit communes with your spirit to direct you. Begin here if you are not sure what to do: “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

As you pray today, know that God will reveal the things that are happening at the right time according to His own purposes. Trust Him completely. Intercede for Christians on congressional committees dealing with intelligence and other secrets to be trustworthy and seek to know God’s will and purposes for the knowledge they are given.

14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
