Little Raindrops

 The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.  – Isaiah 11:9

Concerning today’s verse and surrounding passage, Matthew Henry’s commentary says:

 “The better we know the God of love, the more shall we be changed into the same likeness, and the better disposed to all who have any likeness to him. This knowledge shall extend as the sea, so far shall it spread. And this blessed power there have been witnesses in every age of Christianity, though its most glorious time, here foretold, is not yet arrived. Meanwhile, let us aim that our example and endeavors may help to promote the honor of Christ and His Kingdom of peace.”

Last month, you may have given some thought to your purpose, goals, and plans for the new year. Each individual believer varies in their abilities, their circumstances, and their skills. But every believer can make it their aim to honor Christ and live in ways subject to His kingship. Believers are to live in step with the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16) bearing His fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Ask God today to help you better know His love, to continue to become more like Christ and extend His love to those around you. The Lord was an example of prayer and taught His disciples to pray. Believe He is answering your prayers as you bring Him your needs, and those of your family, friends, citizens, and leaders of this nation. Little raindrops make a big flood. Pray that each individual Christian will do their part, however small, so that the United States and Earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 11:9

They shall not hurt or destroy
    in all my holy mountain;
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
    as the waters cover the sea.

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
