Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of Transportation is developing new roadway safety standards with five goals in mind: promoting safer driving, ensuring safer roads, encouraging safer vehicles, reducing speed limits, and improving emergency care at crash sites.
White House Middle East Coordinator Brett McGurk said the U.S. and Iran “are in the ballpark of a possible deal” to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement, but he “doesn’t want to put odds on it.”
Pray that administration officials would seek God’s supernatural wisdom as they deal with the issues surrounding rogue nations like Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming urged the United States to place sanctions on Russia before it invades Ukraine. “Vladimir Putin is like the big, bad wolf,” he said. “He is huffing and puffing, and he has the capacity to blow Ukraine down. He’s accountable to no one,” adding the nation needs to immediately “put in sanctions now so Putin will see just what pain he will suffer if he does invade.”
Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has warned that the Iranian regime is 12 to 18 months away from developing a nuclear bomb. In a briefing, he said, “Russia sent a secret agreement to Iran. Russia is trying to take the lead now on negotiations with Iran.” He said they have not seen the agreement and that President Biden’s administration still thinks “that negotiating at the table is the way to go.”
Pray for the members of Congress assuming roles of overseers and their urging of the administration on actions to take.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to NBC Universal executives voicing concerns about “the extent of influence the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) may have over NBC Universal’s coverage of the [Olympic] games.” The human rights abuses committed by the CCP have been the subject of intense scrutiny ahead of this year’s Winter Games in Beijing. Activists last year sent a letter to NBC executives urging the network to cancel plans to cover the Olympics.
Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are pressing President Biden’s administration to explain how the British terrorist who took four people hostage inside a Texas synagogue in January was allowed to enter the country given major flags in his background.
Pray for committees in the House and Senate who are promulgating legislation they intend to introduce.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
A federal judge blocked a Texas law that prohibits government entities from doing business with contractors that participated in boycott divestment and sanctions (BDS) activity against Israel from being enforced and against a Palestinian-American contractor. The judge said the law infringed on the contractor’s First Amendment rights.
A panel of three federal court judges blocked newly drawn congressional districting map of Alabama and ordered the state legislature to create a new one that includes two districts rather than the planned single one. The judges found the planned new map for the district that includes a large number of black voters likely violated the Voting Rights Act.
Pray for judges across the country dealing with redistricting maps and other issues related to the upcoming midterm elections.
