Predicted rocky retreat and collapse of the Afghan air force.
On Wednesday, the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction (SIGAR) made its January 2021 assessment of Afghanistan available to the public. In this watchdog report, they pointed out the lack of focused support for an independent Afghan Air Force and recommended a more intentional structure to facilitate a clean transition of power.
Defense Department spokesman Major Rob Lodewick said, “DoD has long-acknowledged the important role the [Afghan Air Force] had within the [Afghan National Defense and Security Forces] and its efforts/ability to secure Afghanistan.” He added, “The specific challenges presented by SIGAR were well known to DoD at the time of the report’s original release and were actively being addressed all the way up to the fall of Kabul.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the inspector general’s efforts to accurately assess the military situation in Afghanistan.
- For the leaders within the Defense Department as they evaluate and process the information and feedback regarding the U.S. withdrawal.
- For the president and secretary of defense as military operations are assessed and planned.
