Federal voting rights is on their agenda.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will be in Atlanta on Tuesday to promote federal legislation on voting rights in Georgia. The White House has announced that the vice president is the administration’s Point Person on voting rights issues.
The White House press secretary stated that the president and vice president will “speak to the American people about the urgent need to pass legislation to protect the constitutional right to vote and the integrity of our elections.”
A measured signed into law last year in Georgia cuts the amount of time voters have to request an absentee ballot, shortens early voting before runoff elections, and limits drop boxes where voters can deposit their completed ballots
There is currently pressure in the U.S. Senate to change the chamber’s rules to either eliminate the filibuster outright or carve out an exception for certain bills, such as measures that deal with voting rights.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For safety for the president and vice president as they travel to Georgia.
- For Congress as they deliberate the issue of states rights versus federal oversight of elections.
- For members of the Senate as they consider changes to filibuster rules and the voting and elections bills.
