The virtual meeting will include government leaders and prominent figures from commercial and social organizations.
“Democracy doesn’t happen by accident,” President Biden said. “We have to defend it, fight for it, strengthen it, renew it.”
At America’s “Summit for Democracy” from December 9th and 10th, the president is expected to discuss promoting democracy around the globe. At the meeting, a diverse group of “the world’s democracies” will discuss defending against authoritarianism, fighting corruption, and promoting respect for human rights.
The intention of this first-of-its-kind summit is “to provide leaders a forum to engage, listen, and speak honestly about the challenges and opportunities facing democratic governments and how democracies can deliver for their citizens,” the White House said.
During the summit, the U.S. government will announce new initiatives and commitments in areas like bolstering free and independent media, fighting corruption, defending free and fair elections, strengthening democratic reforms, and harnessing technology for democratic renewal.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the president as looks to address the risk posed to democracy by authoritarian governments around the world.
- For God to guide each of the participants in the upcoming Summit for Democracy in their shared goals.
